Purple Santa toy drive collects largest campus-wide donation to date

This year’s Purple Santa toy drive was the most successful yet. More than 1,000 toys were collected from 54 SFA departments, which sets a new Purple Santa collection record. The toys have been donated to Toys for Tots to help children in Nacogdoches have a very happy holiday.

Even though Santa’s sleigh passed by, there's still time to participate. Additional toys can be dropped off before 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, in the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, located in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Room 3.105.

Center for Career and Professional Development accepting requests for spring 2017

SFA’s Center for Career and Professional Development invites faculty and staff members to begin submitting class assignment and presentation requests for the spring 2017 semester.

Faculty and staff members often incorporate CCPD into the classroom or within student-organization activities through résumé writing and cover letter critiques, mock interviews and presentations which cover a variety of career-development topics.

Requests should be submitted at least two weeks in advance of the requested presentation date or start date for an assignment. Once CCPD receives the request, the staff will confirm a date and time.

Click here for more information. Links to request presentations or assignments can be found on the right-hand side of the site.

For more information, contact Jamie Bouldin, CCPD director, at jfbouldin@sfasu.edu.

Bowling team notches runner-up finish at Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

SFA’s bowling team closed out the 2016 calendar year with a second-place finish this weekend at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in Kenner, Louisiana, posting a 9-3 mark throughout the three-day event. The Ladyjacks went 1-1 on the final day of competition, falling to host Tulane University in the championship match.

Entering Sunday as the No. 2 overall seed, the Ladyjacks met with top-seeded Vanderbilt University in the opening round where the winner would guarantee itself a spot in the championship match. SFA found itself in a 0-2 hole early but rallied to win games three (213-151) and four (232-214) to even the match at two games apiece. Vanderbilt won game five 213-200, followed by a Ladyjack 211-183 decision in game six, setting up a winner-take-all game seven.

Lumberjacks clobber Centenary College of Louisiana, 90-59

Finally back in the comforts of its home facility following a stretch of over two weeks away, SFA’s men’s basketball team locked into a far more tenacious defensive mindset Saturday and added another victim to its lengthening list of teams who have exited Johnson Coliseum without a win.

Four Lumberjacks finished with 13 or more points, helping to extend the nation’s third-longest home-court winning streak to 31 games by hammering Centenary College of Louisiana, 90-59.
