Elementary school to be named after SFA alumna Janet Brenner Hoover
SFA alumna Janet Brenner Hoover has always had a passion for education, and now she has been given the opportunity to leave her educational mark on the world in a big way.
Recently, Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District announced it is naming a new elementary school in Hoover’s honor. The Janet Brenner Hoover Elementary School will serve pre-K through second grade students.
“It’s exciting and hard to believe. I want to pinch myself. I’m thinking, ‘Is this really happening to me?’” Hoover said. “It’s very humbling and an honor that the district thinks enough of me to do this.”
Become a Texas Certified Public Manager at SFA
The nationally accredited Texas Certified Public Manager Program at SFA provides an outstanding career development opportunity for SFA employees. The opportunity allows employees to receive on-campus training, network, exchange ideas and learn about best practices in public management. Participants receive instruction from a variety of successful public managers, professional trainers and SFA professors.
Managing for Quality (Track 2) will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, in the Human Services Building on campus and also will meet Feb. 3 and March 3. The CPM Program at SFA offers employees and students a 20-percent discount for this track. The discounted cost is $476 per person, which includes textbooks, class materials, break supplies and lunch.

Baseball program releases 56-game schedule for 2017 season
SFA’s head baseball coach Johnny Cardenas recently unveiled the Lumberjacks’ 56-game regular season schedule for the 2017 season.
The team is set to take on no fewer than 23 opponents from eight conferences. Six of the team’s 2017 opponents secured spots in the 2016 NCAA Division I baseball tournament and one of them – Texas Christian University – advanced to the 2016 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
Irish ensemble Danú to perform Celtic Christmas concert tomorrow
Celtic music all the way from Ireland will signal the opening of the Christmas holiday at SFA when the College of Fine Arts presents a special performance of the internationally acclaimed professional ensemble Danú at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in Turner Auditorium on campus as part of its 2016-17 University Series.
Danú will celebrate the festive season at SFA with “Féile Na Nollag” (A Christmas Gathering). Celtic music lovers around the globe have been thrilled by Danú’s virtuoso players on fiddle, flutes, button accordion and percussion as well as the gorgeous voice of Nell Ní Chróinín, performing along with top-notch guest dancers, according to Scott Shattuck, associate dean for the College of Fine Arts and the director of the University Series.
Single event ticket prices are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $10 for non-SFA students/youth. Tickets for SFA students are $3.
