State Rep., alumnus Jason Isaac to offer SFA commencement address Saturday

State Rep. and SFA alumnus Jason Isaac will offer the commencement address during SFA’s fall graduation ceremonies Saturday, Dec. 17.

Isaac graduated SFA with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1996 with a major in marketing and a minor in management. He met his wife, Carrie, in a history class at SFA, and the couple married a few years after graduation. During his time at SFA, Isaac founded the university’s lacrosse team, which is still active today, and he was president of the Association of Sports Clubs.

Annual Bert Rees Lighting Contest now underway

Rees Jewelry and the Rees Family and Friends are hosting the sixth annual Bert Rees Lighting Contest for homes located in Nacogdoches County. Named for SFA art professor and jeweler Bert Rees, the contest celebrates the “season of light” with awards for best residential lighting display.

Residents may enter themselves or a neighbor now through Sunday, Dec. 18, by visiting the contest's Facebook page and uploading a photo with address information.

Dates announced for Kyle Keller Radio Show on Q107.7

Beginning Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, CC’s Smokehouse in Nacogdoches will host the Kyle Keller Radio Show. The hour-long show will largely be devoted to discussion regarding SFA’s men’s basketball team and will feature head coach Kyle Keller as well as host Rob Meyers.

Produced by the Lumberjack Sports Network and distributed by SFA athletics’ radio flagship partner Q107.7 FM, the show will air Monday nights from 6 to 7 p.m. and feature various special guests throughout its run.

Tickets still available for Danú’s Celtic Christmas celebration

Tickets are still available to a holiday performance of the internationally acclaimed professional Irish ensemble Danú at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, in Turner Auditorium on campus.

Danú will celebrate the festive season at SFA with Celtic music in “Féile Na Nollag” (A Christmas Gathering) as a highlight of SFA's College of Fine Arts’ 2016-17 University Series.

Single event ticket prices are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $10 for non-SFA students and youth. Tickets for SFA students are $3. School of Music to present classic Christmas opera

SFA’s College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present Gian Carlo Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, and at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on campus.

“Amahl and the Night Visitors,” a 45-minute Christmas opera performed in English, has delighted audiences since its television premiere in 1951. The Three Kings, on their search for the Christ Child, stop for the night at the home of a widow and her young, disabled son.

Tickets for the Thursday night performance are $8 for adults and $6 for seniors, students and youth. Tickets for the Friday morning performance are $6 for individuals and $5 each for groups of 20 or more. For tickets or information, click here or call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
