Office of International Programs to host presentation about South Korea, Pakistan

The Office of International Programs invites faculty and staff members, students and community members to a cultural presentation about South Korea and Pakistan at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, in the Ferguson Building, Room 479.

The event will include a presentation led by SFA international students from South Korea and Pakistan who will speak about their countries' traditions and lifestyle, and authentic food samples will be served. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.

The Office of International Programs offers monthly Global Gateway Presentations to learn about different countries followed by an informal Q&A period. The presentations are given by SFA international students who share their culture and traditions, talk about everyday lives of the people, and speak from their own experiences.

Center for Teaching and Learning conducting survey

The Center for Teaching and Learning is seeking input from faculty members regarding preferences for future teaching and learning-related professional development opportunities.

Full and part-time faculty members of all ranks are invited to take the survey, which takes approximately three minutes to complete and is available here.

The results of the survey will help guide the CTL staff members as they plan new workshops and events for 2018.

University Women’s Club to host social

Join the University Women’s Club for its monthly social from 5-7 p.m. tonight at the Liberty Bell in downtown Nacogdoches.

SFA Press offering holiday special on cookbook

The SFA Press is offering a holiday special on its book, “Well Done: SFA 90+ Years and Cooking.”

While supplies last, books are $20 each with the purchase of two or more books (regular price $25 each).

Nominate an exemplary student for the 2018 Mr. and Miss SFA Awards

The Mr. and Miss SFA title is an award presented each year by the SFA Alumni Association to exemplary students who well represent and promote SFA. Recipients are selected based on their scholarship, participation and leadership in academic and co-curricular activities, citizenship, service and loyalty to the university.

Nominees must have completed 90 earned credit hours, 48 of which must have been completed at SFA. They must be enrolled for the spring 2018 semester, have a minimum 2.5 GPA and be within 12 months of graduating.

Nominations can be submitted online. Additional documentation can be mailed or dropped by the alumni office on campus. All nomination information is due by Nov. 30.

Dance team to hold 2017 Kid's Clinic and performance

The SFA dance team with hold the 2017 Kid’s Clinic and performance at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. Participants will perform later that day during the basketball game halftime.

The cost is $55 per dancer. Register by Dec. 1 to ensure a spot and T-shirt. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with details no later than the Monday of the event.

Women’s basketball looks to increase winning streak

SFA’s women's basketball team is on a roll by winning its past four games. The team hopes to stay on its streak with the game against Central Baptist College, which will take place at 5 p.m. tonight in Johnson Coliseum.

The men’s basketball team will play North Dakota State University at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Johnson Coliseum.

The game will be streamed nationwide on ESPN3, the ESPN app and on Q107.7 FM.

Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band pay tribute to ‘Monuments’ tonight

SFA’s Wind Symphony and the Symphonic Band will present the program “Monuments” at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Turner Auditorium.

The SFA Symphonic Band, conducted by Dr. Tamey Anglley, assistant director of bands at SFA, will open the first half of the concert with Jack Stamp’s “Cenotaph,” which will be conducted by graduate student Brandon Beavers of Livingston.

The Wind Symphony, conducted by Dr. David Campo, associate director of bands, will perform works by Clifton Williams, John Mackey and Michael Daugherty.

Contemporary Ensemble to perform music of Metheny, Plini, Chon tomorrow

SFA’s Contemporary Ensemble will present a contemporary jazz/rock fusion concert at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in Cole Concert Hall.

The program will feature the music of John Scofield and Pat Metheny, Plini, Suda, Tribal Tech and others, according to Andrew Sperandeo, adjunct faculty in Sound Recording Technology and guitar instructor in the School of Music. Sperandeo said he chose a program that would focus on “some challenging, higher-level music.” The concert is a presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music.

SFA’s Music Prep announces December recital schedule

SFA’s Music Preparatory Division in the School of Music has announced its fall recital schedule.

Piano students of SFA music major instructors and students of Dr. Mario Ajero will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, in the Music Recital Hall in the Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.

Guitar students of Andrew Sperandeo, cello students of Kate Hite and a voice student of Charlotte Davis will perform at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the performance hall in the Music Prep Building.

All recitals are open to the public.

Usher in the holiday season with ‘Christmas with the Annie Moses Band’

SFA’s College of Fine Arts and its 2017-18 University Series will present “Christmas with the Annie Moses Band” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, in Turner Auditorium.

The Nashville-based Annie Moses Band combines the best of beloved genres in a style that unifies audiences, young and old, classical connoisseurs and roots enthusiasts, jazz aficionados and bluegrass buffs, according to Scott Shattuck, associate dean in the College of Fine Arts and director of the University Series.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $10 for non-SFA students and youth. Tickets for SFA students are $3.
