Barry Nelson

Funeral arrangements have been announced for SFA Regent Barry Nelson, who passed away Tuesday.

A memorial service at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, will be at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane in Dallas. Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Contributions are being accepted for the Barry Nelson Memorial Scholarship. Online gifts at specified amounts can be made here.

Gifts by check should be made payable to the SFASU Foundation. Please include a note that states the gift is in memory of Regent Nelson. Checks should be mailed to the SFASU Foundation, P.O. Box 6092, SFA Station, Nacogdoches, Texas, 75962-6092. To contribute by phone, call (936) 468-5406.

The family will be notified regarding each gift.

Veterans Resource Center to host Veterans Day celebration tomorrow

SFA’s Veterans Resource Center will host a Veterans Day and U.S. Marine Corp birthday celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow in the VRC, located on the first floor of the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

The event is free and open to all students and faculty and staff members. Cake and refreshments will be served.

Submit proposals for service learning mini grants

Faculty members are invited to submit proposals to leadership and service programs for the service learning mini grants for the spring 2017 semester.

Thanksgiving housing needed for international students

During Thanksgiving break, SFA’s residence halls are closed. Only students who live in Lumberjack Landing and Lumberjack Village are eligible for break housing. Some international students do not have anywhere to stay during the Thanksgiving break.

Currently, there are two male students who need housing. SFA’s Office of International Programs is working to find these students a place to stay.

Those interested in hosting an international student during this time should email Heather Catton, director of international studies and programs, at hcatton@sfasu.edu.

Director’s forum meeting to take place tomorrow

A director’s forum meeting will take place at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the McGee Business Building, Room 133.

All directors or a representative from each area are welcome to attend to build camaraderie and increase communication across campus.

Final installment of Consciousness Speaker Series to take place next week

The final installment of SFA’s Office of Multicultural Affairs’ Consciousness Speaker Series will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Multimedia Room 2.101.

Dr. Luis Aguerrevere, associate professor in SFA’s School of Human Services, will present "Hispanics: Physical and Mental Symptom Disabilities Report."

Light refreshments will be provided. Sack lunches are allowed.

International Poetry Reading to take place tonight

SFA’s Department of Languages, Cultures and Communications will host an International Poetry Reading at 6 p.m. tonight at the Cole Art Center @ the Old Opera House, located at 329 E. Main St. downtown.

The free event provides a celebration of language, poetry and culture and will include poems in Afrikaans, Bengali, Chinese, Classical Greek, French, German, Latin, Portuguese, Quenya, Russian, Spanish and Ukrainian.

Women's basketball signs four on National Letter of Intent Day

SFA’s women’s basketball Head Coach Mark Kellogg announced the signing of four recruits to National Letters of Intent Wednesday during the early signing period.

The 2017 signing class comprises point guard Marissa Banfield from Friendswood, Texas, (Westbury Christian School); guard Alyssa Mayfield from Tyler, (John Tyler High School); center Aaliyah Johnson from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, (Lee’s Summit North); and guard Brionne Burns from Independence, Missouri, (William Chrisman High School).

Humphreys announces addition of Anyia Williams to 2017 roster

SFA head volleyball coach Debbie Humphreys recently announced Anyia Williams, a middle blocker from Cedar Hill, Texas, has signed her national letter of intent to become a member of the Ladyjacks volleyball team beginning fall 2017.

Recently capping off her prep career with an appearance in the opening round of the 6A Regions I and III playoffs, Williams served as a team captain for the Longhorns as a senior and collected First Team All-District acclaim as a prep.

Madrigal Singers to perform works of Somers, Britten in fall concert tonight

SFA’s Madrigal Singers will perform a fall concert at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Cole Concert Hall on campus.

The SFA Madrigal Singers, under the direction of Dr. Tim King, director of choral activities in SFA's School of Music, is a highly select 16-voice ensemble comprising members of the A Cappella Choir.
