Office of Multicultural Affairs to celebrate National Heritage Month
Join SFA’s Office of Multicultural Affairs as it hosts Aztec dance group Mitotillztli Yaoyollothi from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center plaza.
The group will perform an interactive presentation offering tribal dancing and drumming.
They also will share the philosophy of the Mixihca-Nahuati culture.
Virtual Reality interest group meeting tomorrow
SFA’s Virtual Reality group will meet at 3 p.m. tomorrow in the Steen Library Wyatt Room.
The meeting will focus on getting started guides for your Virtual Reality or 360 photo/video project. Topics of discussion will include tools, resources and contacts available on campus.
To join the SFA VR interest group, log in to mySFA, click "Office 365 Apps" under the "Employee Email" tab, select "Yammer," search "SFA VR" and click "Join Group."
Graduate school fair scheduled this fall
SFA’s Graduate School will host the 2017 Graduate School Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Regents' Suites A and B.
Faculty and staff members are encouraged to inform students about the event, especially those looking to continue their education by attending graduate school. Click here for a list of participating programs.
Upcoming community events
The Wassail Fest will take place Saturday, Nov. 25, in downtown Nacogdoches. Wassail samples will be served at downtown shops and locations, and participants are invited to vote on their favorite.
The Nine Flags Christmas Festival is taking place Dec. 2, the day of the Lighted Christmas Parade and Fireworks show.
The holiday shopping event Jingle and Mingle is taking place from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 8 in downtown Nacogdoches. Eat, shop and be merry.
Jacks beat Lamar University, improve to 4-3 in Southland Conference
Behind a season-high 571 yards of total offense, including a season-high 321 through the air and 272 on the ground, SFA’s football team ran past Lamar University 34-7 Saturday night in Beaumont.
The Lumberjacks used a balanced attack of rushing and passing inside Provost Umphrey Stadium and held the host Cardinals to 222 yards of total offense, the fewest amount of yards SFA has given up in a game this season.
Volleyball team beats Southeastern Louisiana University in 3-0 victory
Fueled by a 12-kill, six-block performance by junior outside hitter Makenzee Hanna, SFA’s volleyball team stretched its winning streak to nine matches and remained in first place in the Southland Conference by battling Southeastern Louisiana University at the University Center Arena Saturday afternoon.
Women’s golf in ninth place after first round at Little Rock Women’s Classic
After 18 holes of play Sunday, SFA’s women's golf team is ninth among 15 teams at the Little Rock's Women's Golf Classic in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State University is currently in first place, while both Jacksonville State University and Missouri State University are tied for second place.
Men’s golf 12th through round one at Duck Commander Intercollegiate
Through one round of play University of Louisiana at Monroe's Duck Commander Intercollegiate at the Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Arkansas, SFA’s men's golf team sits in 12th place. The Lumberjacks combined to shoot a 31-over 319 on day one of play.
Host University of Louisiana at Monroe is in first place. Arkansas State University is in second and Western Kentucky University is in third.
Bowling team finishes fourth at Brunswick Bearcat Open
SFA’s bowling team finished fourth in the Brunswick Bearcat Open title match at the St. Claire Bowl in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
The Ladyjacks went 1-2 on the day in three best 4-of-7 Baker matches, but picked up a first-round victory in bracket play over fifth-ranked and Southland Bowling League foe Sam Houston State University.
TCU’s Trio Con Brio to perform at SFA tonight
The Trio Con Brio, an ensemble of musicians from the Texas Christian University music faculty, will perform a guest recital at 6 p.m. tonight in Cole Concert Hall.
The trio is comprised of Dr. Misha Galaganov, viola; Gary Whitman, clarinet; and John Owings, piano.

Percussionist Whyte to perform works of Becker, Bissell, Hamilton
Performer, teacher and composer Chris Whyte will present a guest percussion recital at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, in Cole Concert Hall.
The recital, titled “With Tape,” is a feature of the SFA School of Music’s Calliope Concert Series and will include a program of works by Bob Becker, Paul Bissell and Bruce Hamilton. Hamilton composed “EDGE (Corrugated Box)” in 1991 for an assortment of drums, cymbals, accessory percussion instruments and vibraphone.
