Register for the Part-Time Job, Volunteer and Internship Expo

Each year, the Center for Career and Professional Development hosts the Part-Time Job, Volunteer and Internship Expo during Weeks of Welcome. Many of the attending students are interested in gaining on-campus employment, and this event is a great avenue for SFA departments to fill vacant student worker or internship positions.
This year’s expo will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Regents' Suites A and B.

Registration for SFA departments is free for this event. For more information or to register, contact Brandi Derouen, CCPD assistant director, at derouenb@sfasu.edu.

SFA collecting donations for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts

In support of individuals who have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey, SFA and various on-campus organizations are collecting donations to aid in relief efforts. Donations are being transported to Drewery Construction, the Nacogdoches company that is making daily deliveries to shelters in affected areas.

SFA and Nacogdoches community members can bring items such as diapers, baby formula, dog and cat food, first aid kits and water to the Student Recreation Center on the university campus. The center is open from 6 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and noon to midnight Sunday. For a complete list of items being collected, visit sfasu.edu/harvey.

For more information about relief initiatives, call (936) 468-2605.

Ladyjacks tame Bobcats 2-1 in home opener

SFA's soccer team fought off a sluggish start to their 2017 home opener Sunday afternoon as a second-half penalty kick lifted them to a 2-1 victory over Texas State University at Nacogdoches High School. This is the second straight win for the Ladyjacks and comes after a 10-day break from match play after Friday's match with Texas Southern University was canceled.

SFA sophomore Carli Arthurs pushed forward on the attack in the 15th minute, received a pass from senior midfielder Hanna Barker, and scored on a strike from 16 yards out that gave the Ladyjacks an early 1-0 lead.

Volleyball claims Mississippi State University Bulldog Invite title

Setting the tone with a strong service game, SFA volleyball laid claim to the Mississippi State University Bulldog Invitational title with a 3-1 victory in the final tournament match Saturday.

SFA racked up 11 service aces — four of which came from SFA sophomore Corin Evansand, which complemented her nine kills and 12 digs.

With the win, the Ladyjacks put an end to Tulane's five-match winning streak and hiked their string of successive victories to seven — the program's longest since reeling off 17 in a row en route to the Southland Conference regular season title in 2015.

SFA football falls 58-14 at Southern Methodist University in season opener

SFA’s football team's 2017 season opened with a 58-14 loss against Southern Methodist University Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas. Early miscues on the offensive and defensive ends led to a 21-point first quarter outburst by the Mustangs.

Only able to cross the 50-yard line twice in the first half, it took more than eight and a half minutes into the second quarter before SFA's defense was able to force a Mustang punt. After going three and out on their opening drive to start the game, the Jacks witnessed a 12 play, 74 yard by the Mustangs, resulting in a 13-yard touchdown pass from SMU's starting quarterback.
