Dr. Kelly Noe

Interim director of the Schlief School of Accountancy

Noe has been awarded Outstanding Faculty Adviser for Beta Alpha Psi at the national level.

Since 2010, Noe has been co-adviser for BAP, which is an international honor organization for financial information professionals. Beginning this semester, Noe is serving as chapter advocate for the Southwest Region. Dr. Nikki Shoemaker, BAP co-adviser, praised her coworker for her achievement.

“Kelly is a phenomenal co-adviser whose dedication to the students and profession is unparalleled,” Shoemaker said. “She cares greatly for the success of the students and used her time as Beta Alpha Psi co-adviser to help students grow their professional skills.”

SFA honors deceased student

The SFA flag on Vista Drive will be lowered to half-staff today in honor of SFA student  Michael D. Chenier who died in a car accident earlier this week. Chenier was a marketing, management and international business major from Katy, Texas.

Funeral arrangements are not yet known, but faculty and staff members and students may contact the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs at (936) 468-7249 for updates.

Save the dates for ‘The Undergraduate Experience’ campus workshops

Individuals participating in the campus reading of “The Undergraduate Experience” are invited to attend workshops that will be held October through April. The workshops will explore how lessons learned from the readings can be applied to fulfill the mission of engaging students in a learner-centered environment through personal attention from faculty and staff members. Workshop dates are below. Each will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on their respective dates in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Twilight Ballroom.

• Chapters 1 and 2 — Oct. 26. (Individuals wishing to attend this event need to register via this form.)
• Chapters 3 and 4 — Nov. 30
• Chapters 5 and 6 — Feb. 8.
• Chapters 7 and 8 — March 29.

An Action Plan Conference is scheduled from 1:30 to 5 p.m. April 5. More information about these workshops will be provided at a later date. To register for a copy of “The Undergraduate Experience," complete this form.

Competition yields 327 pounds of recycled plastic

A total of 327 pounds of plastic have been recycled this semester as a result of the 4th Quarter Hustle, a recycling competition for SFA student organizations supported by SFA Dining, Baker Pattillo Student Center Student Services and SFA athletics.

The effort is carried out during the last quarter of home football games. Seven student organizations participated in the most recent event, collecting a total of 218 pounds of plastic to be recycled in the new recycling bin located on campus behind Hall 16.

The next 4th Quarter Hustle will take place at the Oct. 15 home football game against Southeastern Louisiana University.

Free Fall Fit Fest at SFA Rec tonight

SFA Campus Recreation’s Fitness and Wellness program will be hosting a free Fall Fit Fest from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight in the Student Recreation Center's courtyard. This event will help educate, motivate and inspire SFA to get active and live a healthy, happy life.

Personal trainers, fitness assistants, group fitness instructors, a massage therapist and SFA’s registered dietitian will be at the event to answer questions, offer demonstrations, provide fitness assessments and more. 

Attendees can enter for a chance to win Campus Recreation baskets, 15-minute massage sessions and personal training sessions. Event attendees must have their SFA ID to access the event.

Hanna Barker awarded Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week

SFA soccer junior Hanna Barker has been named Southland Conference Offensive
Player of the Week. This is the second Player of the Week accolade for the Ladyjack soccer team during the 2016 season.

Barker had her first career hat-trick Sunday afternoon against Houston Baptist University. After scoring four goals, Barker is only one goal away from tying her career-high record. She played a total of 114 minutes during the Ladyjacks’ first weekend of conference play on the road.

Cross country sweeps Athlete of the Week honors

SFA cross country seniors Charles Mathenge and Samantha Ottman were named the Southland Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week.

The honor is the first of the season for both men’s and women’s runners at SFA. The recognition came after a tough race weekend at the Oklahoma State University Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

White, Lautensack register top-10 finishes leading Ladyjacks to third-place

SFA women's golf senior Jessie White fired a 1-under 70, the lowest individual round of the tournament at the Oral Roberts Bob Hurley Shootout Tuesday, allowing her to finish sixth in individual standings. White helped pace the Ladyjacks to a third-place showing, finishing with a 60-over 912.

White was joined in the individual top-10 by redshirt sophomore Erica Lautensack, who tied for eighth with a 12-over 225. Lautensack matched her second round 6-over 77 in round three, giving her the fifth top-10 finish of her career and matching her 54-hole tournament low score, set originally in 2015.

Lumberjacks, Bearkats tangle in 91st Battle of the Piney Woods at NRG Stadium Saturday

SFA football will make its annual trek to NRG Stadium in Houston for the 91st installment of the Battle of the Piney Woods against rival Sam Houston State University Saturday. Kickoff against the Bearkats is set for 3 p.m. from the home of the Houston Texans as the two teams renew one of the oldest rivalries in the state.

Saturday’s showdown will be streamed in high definition through ESPN3, available online at ESPN3.com or through the WatchESPN app on portable devices.

SFA’s Cole Series to feature guest flute, guitar recital

SFA’s College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present a guest flute and guitar recital featuring Julee Kim Walker and Alejandro Montiel at 6 p.m. tomorrow in Cole Concert Hall on campus.

Walker, who is assistant professor of flute at Texas A&M University-Commerce, and Montiel, who leads two full-time guitar studios at both Sam Houston State University and Lone Star College-Montgomery, will present their 2016 fall recital tour program, “Dance, Dance, Revolution.”

Hachidori Duo to present ‘Songs and Dances’ recital program

The Hachidori Duo at SFA will present “Songs and Dances” when the ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on campus.

The Hachidori Duo includes husband-and-wife musicians Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, associate professor of violin and viola in the SFA School of Music, and Dr. Evgeni Raychev, cello instructor. Their recital is a feature of the School of Music’s Cole Performing Arts Series.
