English and creative writing faculty members to host public reading of original works
English and creative writing faculty members in the SFA College of Liberal and Applied Arts will host a public reading of original works at 7 p.m. tomorrow in Dugas Liberal Arts North Building, Room 142. Faculty and staff members are encouraged to attend and invite students to the reading.
Participating faculty members include Andrew Brininstool, assistant professor of English; Drs. Christine Butterworth-McDermott and John A. McDermott, professors of English; Dr. Mark Sanders, Department of English and Creative Writing professor and chair; and Michael Sheehan, assistant professor of English.
2016 Accounting Fair to take place today
The Center for Career and Professional Development will host the 2016 Accounting Fair from 1 to 3 p.m. today in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.
Faculty and staff members are encouraged to inform students about the event, especially those who may be looking to secure an accounting internship or a full-time accounting position.
Students will need to bring their student IDs for check-in, as well as copies of their résumé to distribute to employers. Professional dress is required. Résumé assistance and the center's free Career Closet are available to help students prepare for the event. Information about these resources may be found on the center's website.

"Cook This, Not That" seminar to be offered Oct. 5
Join Employee Wellness for "Cook This, Not That" at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the Campus Recreation Meeting Room.
During this seminar, participants will learn healthier ways to cook while still eating their favorite foods.

Lumberjacks return to Homer Bryce Stadium to take on Abilene Christian University
SFA's football team will take on Abilene Christian University at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Homer Bryce Stadium. The game, presented by BancorpSouth, marks Parents Weekend for 2016, as well as the third annual Cally Belcher game.
Saturday's game will be streamed online at ESPN3.com or through the WatchESPN app. Rob Meyers will provide audio call at Q107.7 FM and online, as well as through the TuneIn app by following the Lumberjack Sports Network. Live stats will be available on SFAJacks.com with Twitter updates.
Ladyjacks close non-conference schedule by hosting Baylor University
For the first time in 22 years, SFA’s volleyball team (8-5) welcomes Baylor University (10-4) to Nacogdoches for a non-conference match at 6:30 p.m. tonight in Shelton Gym.
The anticipated showdown between the Big 12 and Southland Conference institutions signals the end of the regular season non-conference schedule for both squads. Tonight’s clash also serves as Panhellenic Night as scores of individuals who represent the five National Panhellenic Council-affiliated sororities are expected to attend.
Sudinsky's 1-under 71 paces Lumberjacks on final day of Jim Rivers Intercollegiate
SFA men's golf freshman Zach Sudinsky capped an impressive collegiate debut yesterday, shooting a 1-under 71 over the final round of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate in Choudrant, Louisiana. He finished tied for 11th with a 1-over 217. Sudinsky helped pace the Lumberjacks to a 10th-place showing in the season-opening event with a 25-over 889.
Coming off an even par 72 in round two Monday, Sudinsky registered his career-low 71 over the final 18 holes, shooting an even-par 36 on the front nine and a 1-under on the back, totaling 13 pars on the day. He was 1-over for the event on par-threes but made his mark on the par-fives, finishing at 5-under for the event.
Southeastern Conference Network to televise SFA's non-conference bout at University of Arkansas
In one of its two battles against Southeastern Conference opposition in the 2016-17 regular season, SFA’s men’s basketball team will take on the University of Arkansas at 8 p.m. Dec. 1 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in Bud Walton Arena.
The SEC Network will televise the clash between the Lumberjacks and Razorbacks. The game also will be streamed on the WatchESPN app.
Hachidori Duo to present ‘Songs and Dances’ recital program
The Hachidori Duo at SFA will present “Songs and Dances” when the ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on campus.
The Hachidori Duo includes husband-and-wife musicians Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, associate professor of violin and viola in the SFA School of Music, and Dr. Evgeni Raychev, cello instructor. Their recital is a feature of the School of Music’s Cole Performing Arts Series.
SFA theatre students to present Roderick’s ‘Props’
Playwright Michael Roderick’s “Props” will open the fall semester of SFA’s School of Theatre’s student-directed plays.
Directed by San Antonio senior Jade Bishoppetty, “Props” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in the Downstage Theatre on campus.
The play is about a prop artist who immerses himself in his work after a difficult breakup. The project involves a prop woman, and the women in his life become concerned with his obsession, Bishoppetty said.
SFA’s Cole Series to feature guest flute, guitar recital
SFA’s College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present a guest flute and guitar recital featuring Julee Kim Walker and Alejandro Montiel at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, in Cole Concert Hall on campus.
Walker, who is assistant professor of flute at Texas A&M University-Commerce, and Montiel, who leads two full-time guitar studios at both Sam Houston State University and Lone Star College-Montgomery, will present their 2016 fall recital tour program, “Dance, Dance, Revolution.”
SFA music faculty members present annual scholarship concert tomorrow
SFA School of Music faculty members will be the featured performers during the annual Pi Kappa Lambda Music Faculty Showcase at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in Cole Concert Hall on campus.
"This concert is a showcase featuring the talents of our diverse performing faculty," said Deborah Dalton, SFA associate professor of voice and president of the local chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda, the national music honor society.
With such widespread use of video-streaming technology today, younger generations may never know the process of watching a VHS then having to rewind the tape in a separate machine.
To tie movie-watching generations together, Instagrammer Offtrackoutlet produced a series of VHS covers for modern movies such as “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “The Revenant.” Check them out here, but be prepared for nostalgia to hit.
