Join a new strategic plan study team

As the strategic plan continues to advance, new opportunities have arisen for individuals across campus to be involved in five new strategy study teams. The teams focus on a variety of topics, including affordability and student debt regarding instructional materials, financial literacy and competency-based education, as well culture in terms of leadership at SFA and social events.

Mentor a Nacogdoches ISD student

Faculty and staff members are invited to join SFA’s Office of Multicultural Affairs in giving back to the Nacogdoches community by mentoring elementary and middle school students in Nacogdoches Independent School District.

Two fall training sessions are available for those interested in mentoring or volunteering. Training will provide information about various opportunities available within NISD, as well as the OMA’s mentoring program with the district.

Training sessions will be from 3 to 4 p.m. or 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, and Wednesday, Sept. 21, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Room 3.100.

Barnes & Noble Bookstore hosting hat sale through tomorrow

The Barnes & Noble Bookstore located on the first floor of the Baker Pattillo Student Center is hosting a hat sale through tomorrow. Hats are buy one, get one 50 percent off. The store is open Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Steen Library Freshman Convocation to take place today

The Steen Library will host the Library Freshman Convocation from 4 to 6 p.m. today. The event aims to inform students how the library can help them succeed at SFA. Students in attendance will be introduced to library faculty and staff members as well as key library services and resources. Students will engage in fun problem solving and critical thinking activities, which will address two of the learning goals listed in the SFA 101 syllabus: academic integrity and accessing and evaluating information. 

Faculty and staff members are asked to encourage students to “Follow the Steen trail to Jack success!” Certificates of completion and goodie bags will be provided. Faculty, staff members invited to attend ‘Evening with Executives’ tonight

The Rusche College of Business is excited to invite faculty and staff members to an “Evening with Executives.” During the event, which will be at 6 p.m. tonight in the R.E. McGee Building, Room 133, Citizens National Bank CEO Brad Tidwell and his executive team will provide a “State of the Industry” address to the college’s students. A Q&A session will follow the address.

Retirement reception for human resources director of 20 years to take place today

A retirement reception honoring Glenda Herrington, director of human resources, will be at 2 p.m. today in Regents' Suite A of the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

Faculty Senate meeting scheduled for today

The SFA Faculty Senate will hold its first meeting of the year at 2:30 p.m. today in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Tiered Classroom, Room 2.201.

Speakers will include Chris Rivers, SFA's associate director of public safety and assistant chief of police; Dr. Steve Bullard, provost and vice president for academic affairs; Dr. Mary Nelle Brunson, associate provost; and Dr. Janet Tareilo, associate provost.

Ehlert named Southland Conference Goalkeeper Player of the Week

SFA redshirt junior Lillie Ehlert has been named the Southland Conference Goalkeeper Player of the Week. This is the first accolade for the Ladyjack soccer team in the 2016 season.

Ehlert helped the Ladyjacks earn their first win on the road last week against Texas State University. The game went into double overtime in San Marcos, but the Ladyjacks pulled away with the win, 3-2. Ehlert was in the net all night and had nine saves. She took on 23 shots from the Bobcats, 12 of those on goal, only allowing two goals against her.
