Gov. Greg Abbott appointed Alton Frailey of Katy, Nelda Blair of The Woodlands and re-appointed Dr. Scott Coleman of Houston to the SFA Board of Regents for terms set to expire on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021.

Frailey is the superintendent for Katy Independent School District. He is responsible for the daily operations of Katy ISD’s 60 campuses, over 70,000 students and more than 8,500 employees. Join the International Friendship Program

If you like to learn about other cultures and meet new people, the Office of International Programs offers the International Friendship Program.

A student, faculty or staff member, or a member of the community is paired up with one or two international SFA students. The host and the student or students meet once or twice a month during the semester to have a conversation over coffee, play games, celebrate American holidays or whatever activity both enjoy.

This program opens interaction between the community and international students, and provides opportunities for cultural exchange and lifelong friendships.

Individuals interested in participating as a host can complete an application here. Applications should be submitted no later than Tuesday, Sept. 8.

For more information, contact the Office of International Programs at (936) 468-1779 or email feltso@sfasu.edu

Nominate your favorite student to be in an SFA photo shoot

Our marketing partners at Richards/Carlberg will be on campus Tuesday, Sept. 8, to capture additional student photos to be used in the upcoming marketing campaign.

They have asked us to identify photogenic students who might be willing to assist us. It is important to the campaign that we utilize good students who will cast the university in a favorable light. Students should have on SFA logo wear, if possible, and the men need to be clean shaven.

Please provide the name and contact information (phone number and email address) of students who you believe meet the criteria. If you have any questions, please call (936) 468-2605 or email sluna@sfasu.edu.

Thanks for your assistance in making SFA great.

Battle of Lumberjacks opens 2015 season

SFA opens up its 89th season of football with a battle of Lumberjacks at Homer Bryce Stadium. SFA hosts Northern Arizona on Saturday, Sept. 5, beginning the second year under head coach Clint Conque. It is a unique match-up as SFA and Northern Arizona State University are the only two teams in Division I that boast “Lumberjacks” as their mascot.

SFA has posted a 47-36-5 (.563) record in season openers as 2015 marks the first time the Lumberjacks have opened their season at home since a 49-14 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 2012. Since Homer Bryce Stadium opened in 1973, SFA has played its season opener at home 24 times, posting a 17-7 (.708) record in those games and winning five of the last six.
