Dr. Craig Morton

Professor of agriculture

Morton was named Nacogdoches County's 2018 Agriculture Educator of the Year.

He has taught in SFA's Department of Agriculture for two decades. Recently, Morton received the award from Cory Beasley of Citizen's 1st Bank, sponsor of the annual award. Read More

SFA flag lowered to half-staff today

The SFA flag on Vista Drive is flying at half-staff today in honor of Dr. Sarah Canterberry, an SFA faculty member, who passed away May 4 in Nacogdoches.

Canterberry was an associate professor of biology and served as the President of the Texas Genetics Society. In April 2018, she received the SFA Teaching Excellence Award. She was the faculty advisor for several clubs, including Tri-Beta Biological Honors Society, Women in STEM and Yoseikan Budo.

She is survived by her husband, Matthew Canterberry; daughter, Shelby; son, Wade; parents, Susie and Al Zienko; brother, Travis Zienko and wife Crystal; nephews, Boe and Dusty Zienko; mother and father-in-law, Beverley and Billy Barnett.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel in Nacogdoches. Interment will follow at Lower Chireno Cemetery.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation prior to the service from 12:30 until 2 p.m at Cason Monk-Metcalf, located at 5400 North St.

The Ocean Cleanup, a foundation founded by Dutch inventor Boyan Slat, launched an expedition to research the Great Pacific garbage patch, a floating garbage pile twice the size of Texas.

After collecting and analyzing samples, the foundation has developed ocean-cleaning technology predicted to clean half the patch in five years.
