Campus Recreation

Summer Kick Off scheduled for May 18

Faculty, staff and their families are invited to attend Summer Kick Off from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 18, in the Student Recreation Center.

The event will provide information about swim lessons, youth summer camp, summer pool memberships and more. Food, games, swimming and door prizes will be available.

Faculty and staff golf league registration now open

The first faculty and staff golf league is taking place this summer. The league is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. every Thursday, June 7 through Aug. 16, at Woodland Hills Golf Course.

Register now through June 1 in the Campus Recreation administration office.

Clint Conque youth football camp scheduled for June

The Clint Conque youth football camp for incoming third through eighth graders is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to noon, June 11 through 13, at Homer Bryce Stadium, with registration starting at 7:30 a.m.

Camp cost is $60. A discount is available for SFA faculty and staff for the price of $48.

Mark Kellogg girls basketball camp scheduled for June

A girls basketball day camp for incoming first through eighth grade girls is scheduled for June 11 through 14.

Participants will receive a camp shirt and ball. Campers must provide their own lunch each day. Faculty and staff receive a $10 discount.

SFA’s Summer Art Academy registration underway

Registration is underway for the annual Summer Art Academy offered by SFA’s School of Art for the two-week camp that will meet June 11 through 22.

Students going into kindergarten through sixth grade may enroll in classes that include drawing, painting, sculpture and ceramics.

Classes will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Art Building. An exhibition of the students’ work will be at 5 p.m. Friday, June 22, in the Art Building. Afterward, the students may take their work home.

The registration fee on or before June 1 is $185 and includes all art supplies, exhibition expenses and daily refreshments. Late registration after June 1 is $200. For registration information, click here, or visit the School of Art.

Philadelphia artist wins first place in Texas National

An entry from Daniel Dallmann, an artist from Philadelphia, won SFA’s 2018 Texas National Competition and Exhibition.

The School of Art’s annual juried competition and exhibition attracts entrants from across the United States, providing artists an opportunity to have their work juried by highly regarded artists and critics.

Texas National can be viewed through June 10 at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches. Gallery hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call (936) 468-1131.

SFA Music Prep offering summer lessons, camps

Registration continues for summer lessons and camps offered by the Music Preparatory Division of SFA’s School of Music. 

Guitar Camp, with Chance Moore as director, will be from 2 to 3 p.m. June 25 through 29 at the Music Prep House, located at 3028 Raguet St. The lessons are designed for students ages 10 and up. Tuition is $40, and guitar rental is $10. Class size is limited to 10 students.

Dr. Mario Ajero, School of Music professor, will direct the Kids Piano Kamp for children in first through third grades. Classes are 10 a.m. to noon July 16 through 20 in the Boynton Building, Room 223. Tuition is $100, and class size is limited to 16 students. Registration deadline is June 4.

Dr. Ping-Ting Lan, School of Music adjunct faculty member, will instruct an adult piano class from 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 25; July 2, 9, 16 and 30; Aug. 6 in the Boynton Building, Room 223. Tuition is $105, and class size is limited to 16 students.

Lim joins SFA’s Music Prep faculty

Lydia J. Lim has joined the faculty of the Music Preparatory Division of SFA’s School of Music as a piano teacher.

An active soloist, chamber musician and accompanist, Lim holds a Bachelor of Music, a Master of Music and professional study degrees from Manhattan School of Music and has taught in private music schools throughout New York and New Jersey.
