Have a fun and safe spring break

Remember, the university will be conserving energy during spring break, so be sure to turn off your computers and any other electrical devices.

AARC presents Bravo Award

Every semester, the AARC awards a faculty or staff member for extraordinary support of AARC services.

This semester the award was presented to Dr. Pamela Vaughn, assistant professor of elementary education, for her outstanding promotion of the AARC’s Online Writing Lab.

Vaughn consistently directs her classes to use the OWL for assistance in completing coursework. Kathy Bryson, AARC Writing Program director, selected Vaughn for this award.

SFA Gardens to host Earth Day celebration and plant sale

SFA Gardens will host its annual Garden Gala Day Plant Sale and SFA Earth Day Celebration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center.

The sale will feature a variety of hard-to-find, “Texas-tough” plants, including Texas natives, heirlooms, tropicals, perennials, shrubs and trees with an emphasis on pollinator-friendly selections, as well as exclusive SFA introductions.

The Earth Day celebration features educational booths and activities for kids of all ages, including yoga and tree ID hikes, free local food, a drum circle and more.

Tickets for Little Princess Tea Party now on sale

SFA Gardens will host its annual Little Princess Tea Party at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, in the Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden.

Join charming butterfly fairies for a delightful party with treats, magic and merriment among the enchanting pines and azaleas. Princesses are encouraged to wear their favorite princess or fairy apparel and enjoy a magical day in the garden. This event is recommended for princesses ages 3 to 10 accompanied by an adult.

Tickets are $30 per person and can be reserved online.

Cole Art Center to be open during spring break

The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, SFA’s historic downtown art gallery, will be open regular hours during spring break.

Showing in Cole Art Center are the exhibitions “Junko Chodos: Can We Hear Our Own Voice?” and “Peter Sarkisian: Video Works.” “Junko Chodos: Can We Hear Our Own Voice?” features mixed media pieces and large-scale drawings. The show runs through March 25. The Sarkisian exhibition, which features video projections on sculpture, will show through April 21.

Griffith Gallery in the Griffith Fine Arts Building will be closed during spring break and will reopen Tuesday, March 20.
