School psychology doctoral students, professors present at national conference

SFA students and faculty members in the James I. Perkins College of Education’s Department of Human Services recently presented research at the National Association of School Psychologists Conference in San Antonio.

During the four-day conference, participants attended workshops and events, including featured, practitioner conversations and interest group networking sessions; mini-skills, papers, symposiums and poster presentations; and a keynote address.

SFA Gardens’ lecture series to feature nationally recognized palms expert tonight

SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. tonight in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St. Grant Stephenson, founder of Horticultural Consultants Inc. in Houston and an expert on cold-hardy palms, bamboo and cycads, will present, “Understanding Palms to Understand Their Needs to Thrive in the Landscape.”

With more than 30 years experience in the nursery industry, Stephenson is particularly focused on varieties that thrive in the Gulf Coast climate. His fascination with the plant world began when he was 3 years old while working alongside his grandmother in her gardens.

Lumberjacks to take on Lamar University in conference round tonight

For the 12th-straight season, SFA’s men’s basketball team has earned a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament. The team will begin its quest for a fourth-straight conference tournament title and subsequent NCAA Tournament entry by competing against Lamar University at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy.

ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app will broadcast tonight's game as well as the semifinal conference games. David Saltzman and Jim Haller will narrate the action, and Rob Meyers will provide play-by-play game analysis on Q107.7 FM in Nacogdoches.

Voice faculty member Davis to present recital tonight

SFA’s College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present Charlotte Davis performing a faculty voice recital at 6 p.m. tonight in Cole Concert Hall on campus.

Dr. Ron Petti, pianist and director of accompanying for SFA's School of Music, will perform with Davis.

Closing reception slated tonight for Mora art exhibition

A closing reception for an exhibition of work by artist Juan de Dios Mora currently showing in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House is planned for 5 to 7 p.m. tonight with the artist in attendance.

The exhibition, which opened Jan. 26, features Mora’s finely detailed block prints – some printed with a single color and others featuring multiple colors. Mora is a senior lecturer in the art department at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
