James I. Perkins College of Education to host economic education training

SFA’s James I. Perkins College of Education is hosting Show Me The Moohla!, a curriculum training on economic education scheduled for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 16 and April 21.

Nancy Shepherd, director for the SFA Center of Economic Education, will present curriculum training, which will include free resources for the classroom, explanations of student programs, a resource chart for courses and a review of lesson structure.

Sessions on April 16 will take place in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Multimedia Room 2.106, and in McKibben Education Building, Room 258, on April 21.

Kick Axe Wellness Challenge final rankings released

SFA’s Employee Wellness staff members would like to recognize and congratulate the top three winning teams for exemplifying wellness throughout the challenge's five weeks.

Walking Our Axes Off placed first. Team members include Jessica Shull, Ashley Engle, Jerri Cates and Kim Daniels.

Team EI-EEO placed second. Team members include Deja Peterson, John Wyatt, Kim Odems and Becky Garrett.

The Number Crunchers placed third. Team members include Calee Jo Holcombe, Nikki Shoemaker, Marie Kelly and Susan McGhiey.

Madrid to teach violin, viola in SFA’s Music Preparatory Division

The Music Preparatory Division of SFA’s School of Music has announced the addition of Alba Madrid to its staff of exceptionally talented music educators.

Madrid will teach violin and viola lessons at the Music Prep House, located at 3028 Raguet St. With a bachelor’s degree in music and computer science and a master’s degree in music from the University of Southern Mississippi, Madrid has extensive experience as a teacher and orchestra director, according to Pat Barnett, director of the Music Preparatory Division.

“We are very fortunate to have Alba joining us at Music Prep,” Barnett said. “She brings a wealth of experience and talent, and we are confident that our students will benefit greatly from her expertise.”

Cole Art Center to be open during spring break

The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, SFA’s historic downtown art gallery, will be open regular hours during spring break.

Showing in Cole Art Center are the exhibitions “Junko Chodos: Can We Hear Our Own Voice?” and “Peter Sarkisian: Video Works.” “Junko Chodos: Can We Hear Our Own Voice?” features mixed media pieces and large-scale drawings. The show runs through March 25. The Sarkisian exhibition, which features video projections on sculpture, will show through April 21.

Griffith Gallery in the Griffith Fine Arts Building will be closed during spring break and will reopen Tuesday, March 20.
