Open forum scheduled for tomorrow

Jill Still, vice president for university advancement, will host an open forum at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the McGee Business Building, Room 133. The event is part of continued efforts to foster openness and communication between campus administration and employees.

All faculty and staff are welcome to attend. Questions and discussion are welcome and encouraged. Should you wish to submit a question in advance, you may do so via this form.

For those unable to attend, the event can be viewed from PC, Mac, Linux, iOS or Android devices here.

The final open forum will be hosted by Dr. Steve Westbrook, vice president for university affairs, at 2:30 p.m. April 4 in the McGee Business Building, Room 133.

SFA ranked as one of the safest colleges in America

SFA is one of the safest colleges in America, according to a recent report from the National Council for Home Safety and Security.

According to the council, nearly all accredited U.S. institutions were considered, and a list of the 100 safest campuses in the nation was compiled. SFA was ranked No. 55.

Through the use of innovative technology efforts, prevention trainings and more, SFA’s Department of Public Safety provides police, parking, safety technology and emergency management services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Faculty to be recognized for years of service and retirement

The Faculty Recognition Luncheon is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. April 24 preceded by a reception at 11:45 a.m. in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.

The annual luncheon recognizes faculty members who are completing 10, 20, 30 or 40 years of service at SFA and faculty members who have announced their retirement.

Formal invitations will be sent out in early April.

Office of Multicultural Affairs to present second annual Women’s Empowerment Summit

The Office of Multicultural Affairs will present its second annual Women’s Empowerment Summit from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, March 2, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Twilight Ballroom.

The summit will focus on empowering women from various backgrounds and include sessions where speakers will discuss empowerment in areas such as professional development, education, etiquette, health, body image and more.

The summit will feature two speakers: Jessica Soukup, a writer, feminist and activist for equal rights for transgender and gender-diverse people, and Miara Shaw, a professional development and life strategist.

This free event is open to the SFA and Nacogdoches communities. No tickets are needed, but interested participants must preregister online at sfasu.edu/oma today.

Acclaimed printmaker Loughridge to demonstrate unique techniques tonight

SFA’s School of Art printmaking and graphic design programs will sponsor visiting artist Leon Loughridge today through Friday, March 2.

A free public presentation of his work and unique techniques is scheduled for 5 p.m. tonight in the Art Building, Room B106.

Loughridge, a printmaker from Denver and owner of Dry Creek Art Press, will work on an edition of handmade prints and teach classes in the Japanese Moku Hanga style of printing.
