Library to host game night tomorrow

Faculty members are invited to throw dice, show off their game strategy and have fun while interacting with students at the co-curricular library game night scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow in the Steen Library, first floor.

The game night will take place the last Tuesday of each month during the spring semester. Bring your favorite board game, or use one of ours.

Light snacks will be provided.

Human Resources to host financial representative Terry Mebane tomorrow

Terry Mebane, representative for Voya Financial, Inc., is offering faculty and staff members the opportunity to discuss retirement options tomorrow in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Room 2.304.

Benefits to offer new hours

Beginning tomorrow, benefits will only accept walk-ins from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays.

To discuss benefits outside of walk-in hours on or after Feb. 27, email benefits@sfasu.edu to schedule an appointment.

2018 Spring Teacher Job Fair to take place March 2

The Center for Career and Professional Development will host the 2018 Spring Teacher Job Fair from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday, March 2, in the HPE Complex gym.

Faculty and staff members are encouraged to inform students about the event, especially those who may be looking for a full-time position and to network with professionals. Click here for a list of participating employers.

Faculty members who would like a record of attendance must provide a class roster or a sign-in sheet to the CCPD by Thursday, March 1. Students will need their student ID for check-in, as well as copies of their résumé to distribute to employers. Professional dress is required.

Résumé assistance and the center's free Career Closet are available to help students prepare for the event; however, these services are not offered the day of the event. Information about these resources can be found here.

Alumni Association holding ring week

Ring week is scheduled for today through Thursday, March 1, at the Pearman Alumni Center.

Alumni, including faculty and staff members, may purchase a class ring and participate in the activities leading up to the Big Dip ring ceremony.

Balfour representatives will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help design the perfect ring.

Decades of popular music highlight ‘Broadway, Movies and Classics’ concert

Fans of music made popular during the past 70 years won’t want to miss the fourth installment of the concert series “Broadway, Movies and Classics” presented by SFA’s Orchestra of the Pines at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 5, in Turner Auditorium.

The program will take audiences through generations of music with the tunes of popular artists such as Journey, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Paul Simon and much more.

SFA School of Theatre to present ‘(Biedermann and) The Firebugs’

“(Biedermann and) The Firebugs” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow through March 3 in Turner Auditorium.

The play is appropriate for all ages. However, young children probably would not understand it, but those in mid-teens and up would comprehend its themes.

Guest pianist Phang to perform tomorrow

Guest pianist May Phang will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in Cole Concert Hall.

Dr. Andrew Parr, professor of piano, met Phang when he attended the Interharmony Chamber Music Festival in Arcidosso, Italy, in 2016.

“She is an excellent pianist, and I am pleased that she could come to SFA,” Parr said.

Swingin' Axes and Swingin’ Aces bands to present an evening of jazz

The Swingin' Axes and Swingin’ Aces jazz bands will present an evening of jazz and fun beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Fredonia Brewery.

The Fredonia Brewery will serve beer and other beverages produced at its downtown facility. Eat a Bite Food Truck also will be on site. Rain or shine, the event will stay dry under a tent.

All proceeds benefit SFA’s jazz area.

Ossi Saarinen, a Finnish photographer, snaps pictures of birds, and the results are “awww” inspiring to say the least.

Whether they are flitting around, building a nest or simply hanging out on a tree branch, Saarinen hopes his images of our feathered friends encourage people to care more about the environment.
