SFA participates in National African-American Read-In
SFA students and faculty members recently participated in the National African-American Read-In, an event promoting diversity in children’s literature and highlighting African-American authors.
“The read-in is good for my college students to see how they can make books relevant and connect with their students through characters, authors and the storyline,” said Dr. Lauren Burrow, assistant professor in SFA’s Department of Elementary Education. “It’s also great to see the elementary students respond to the story and feel good about themselves.”
Office of Research and Graduate Studies announces summer and fall research competitions
The Office of Research and Graduate Studies has announced the summer 2018 and fall 2018 Research Grant Development and Research Pilot Studies competitions.
The deadline for summer and fall projects is Friday, March 23. Guidelines and applications are available here.

Office of Multicultural Affairs to present Consciousness Speaker Series today
Maria Sanchez will participate in the Office of Multicultural Affairs’ Consciousness Speaker Series with her discussion regarding victims of sexual assault at 11 a.m. today in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Multimedia Room.
SFA faculty and staff members lead the lunch-hour lecture with the goal of opening discussion regarding progressive issues in diversity, multicultural education and social justice.
Steen Library to host faculty workshop series
The Steen Library will host a workshop about citation managers at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, in Steen Library, Room 205.
Citation managers are programs that save time by organizing references and full-text files, automatically creating in-text citations and a bibliography, and switching between thousands of citation styles.
This session will include an overview of three of the most popular citation managers: RefWorks, Mendeley and Zotero. By the end of the workshop, attendees will know the advantages of using a citation manager and which of the three best meets their needs.

Friends of the Visual Arts to hold scholarship fundraiser
The SFA Friends of the Visual Arts will hold a fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 24, at Raising Cane’s in Nacogdoches.
Raising Cane’s will donate 15 percent of the sales when you mention the FVA. All proceeds will go toward scholarships for the School of Art.

Swingin' Axes and Swingin’ Aces bands to present an evening of jazz
The Swingin' Axes and Swingin’ Aces jazz bands will present an evening of jazz and fun beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Fredonia Brewery.
The Fredonia Brewery will serve beer and other beverages produced at its downtown facility. Eat a Bite Food Truck also will be on site. Rain or shine, the event will stay dry under a tent.
All proceeds benefit SFA’s jazz area.
