SFA flag to be lowered to half-staff tomorrow
The SFA flag on Vista Drive will be flown at half-staff tomorrow in memory of Yessenia Ramirez, an SFA hospitality student from Pasadena, Texas, who died in an automobile accident on Saturday, Feb. 10, in Panola County.
Ramirez was a resident in Kerr Hall and a member of the Lumberjack Marching Band.

Human Resources events slated for Feb. and March
Terry McBane, representative for Voya Financial, Inc., is offering faculty and staff members the opportunity to discuss retirement options tomorrow and Feb. 27 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Room 2.304.
Are you thinking about retiring within the next five years? Human Resources is holding a two-day presentation, 5-4-3 to Retirement, on March 1 and March 8 in the student center, Room 2.201.

Darwin Day taking place today
SFA will host its third annual Darwin Day program from noon to 1 p.m. today in the Kennedy Auditorium.
The featured speaker, Dr. Barbara Forrest, former professor of philosophy at Southeastern Louisiana State University, will present “Why Academic Freedom is a Fraud: The Threat to Science Education.”
Forrest’s presentation will discuss the potential conflict in the science classroom between faith-based explanations of life’s origin and scientific truths.

Council on Undergraduate Research application deadlines approaching for 2018
The Council on Undergraduate Research has travel money available for students for 2018, and application deadlines are approaching.
The CUR Psychology Division application deadline is Thursday, Feb. 15. Faculty mentors must nominate student candidates.
The CUR Physics and Astronomy Division application deadline is March 16, while the CUR Social Science Division application is considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Faculty members are encouraged to inform students of these opportunities.
Campus Recreation to host Spring Wellness Fair Feb. 14
Campus Recreation’s Spring Wellness Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom. The fair will provide resources and services from a variety of SFA and Nacogdoches organizations and businesses.
Services will include blood glucose screening, blood type testing, vision testing, wellness exams, chair massages, product samples, refreshments, educational materials and giveaways. About 30 local vendors will be present. In addition, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas representatives will be present to answer questions about the HealthSelect of Texas plan.
The event is free to all faculty and staff members and students. The Wellness Fair is a great opportunity for students to learn about various organizations on campus and in the community. Faculty members are encouraged to bring or inform their classes about the event.

SFA School of Theatre to present ‘(Biedermann and) The Firebugs’
“(Biedermann and) The Firebugs” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27 through March 3 in Turner Auditorium.
The play is appropriate for all ages. However, young children probably would not understand it, but those in mid-teens and up would comprehend its themes.
Single tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $7.50 for students and youth. For tickets or more information, call the SFA Fine Arts Box Office at (936) 468-6407, or visit theatre.sfasu.edu.
The Ice Music Festival in Finse, Norway, looks like a scene from Disney’s “Frozen.”
During this annual event, people make music using instruments constructed from ice. This year, ice carvers are using water from Lake Finse and a glacier to create keyboards, drums, guitars and more.
