Key earns first in Samford meet

SFA’s men’s and women’s multi-teams traveled Wednesday to Birmingham, Alabama, for the Samford Heptathlon and Pentathlon meet. The meet marked SFA’s third time to compete at the Birmingham Metro Crossplex. Last year, then redshirt-sophomore Hunter Key took second place for the heptathlon, and then-junior Madeline Kaufmann took third.

Now as a redshirt junior, Key claimed his first heptathlon with 4825 points. The Garrison native finished in the top three in four of the seven events, with second-place finishes in the 60 meter sprint and hurdles. Key bested his season record from last year in the long jump by four inches with a 20-08.5 foot jump. He also came within one hundredth of a second from setting a new personal record for his 60 meter hurdles.
